In-plant utilities perform a vital support role in the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. Some utilities assist with equipment and process operations, and others support the safety and welfare of plant personnel. Utilities such as water supplies, compressed air, communications systems, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, fuel supply systems, and roadways continuously serve as an integral part of the plant's daily functions. Others, such as fire protection, storm drainage, and flood protection, serve on an occasional, seasonal, or emergency basis. Loss of any of these services can impair operations, cause facility failure, or impose risks and discomfort on plant staff. |
