Abstract:
The revised version (6th edition) of this chapter is a complete overview and guide to the handling, storage, and feeding of various chemicals used in wastewater treatment. The chapter can serve as a refresher to anyone experienced in chemical handling but also serve as an introduction to those who have little or no knowledge in this area.

This revised version has updated references, tables, and figures. One new table includes chemical feeding information such as feed concentrations, methods of feeding, and equipment type. Methods for choosing the appropriate storage system are now discussed.

New text additions include a discussion of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Risk Management Regulations and Spill Prevention Considerations. Technical additions, which are applicable to both small and large treatment plants, feature discussions on sodium hypochlorite storage and feed systems, including on-site generation. Lastly, a Helpful Hints section has been added, which provides a checklist of items for use by operations personnel and design engineers.
