Membrane Bioreactors: Feasibility and Use in Water Reclamation

Order No: D13000E
Medium: Electronic Download
Publisher: Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF)
Year: 2001

Abstract

Addressing the increased use of reclaimed water, this report examines the use of membranes as bioreactors in place of a sedimentation step in wastewater treatment. The research investigates several configurations of membrane bioreactors in two pilot plants and compares the resulting effluent with that from the full-scale plant from which the test samples were taken. The report summarizes operating and water quality data, as well as the preliminary cost data from these tests. The results of the investigation provide wastewater treatment plant operators with valuable insights into a new and promising technology. Published by WERF.
